2:23 pm, Friday Afternoon
“Billy! Pay Attention!” Miss Honey barked the consonants in each word. The entire class froze and silently gasped. Denise, in the front row, noticed a tiny bit of foam accumulating in the left corner of Miss Honey’s mouth. No one moved, except for Billy. Billy’s head violently shook back and forth. He couldn’t stop.
“CUT IT OUT, BILLY!” Miss Honey roared. The girl next to Billy, Sarah, wet herself and began to cry. The bell rang. Miss Honey smiled.
“Let’s continue, shall we? It’s time for Math! Take out your math workbooks. Today, we will be talking about FRACTIONS!” The word was growled. Freddy, from the back table, vomited the pencil shavings he had been eating. Lisa began smashing her head on her desk. Billy’s head continued to whip around.
On the chalkboard, Miss Honey scratched the word fraction. The children screamed.
“Does anyone know what a fraction issss?” Her tongue hissed with delight. She waited for a response. No response.
“Anyone?” Still no response, just sobs. “Anyone??? No one?!?! For shame, students! A fraction is a part of a whole. For example…” She turned back to the board. The chalk hammered and squeaked on the board as Miss Honey talked, “If a pizza has eight slices, then one half of a pizza is four slices. If I ate two slices, then I ate 2/8 of the pizza, but 2/8 is really 1/4. In the fraction 1/4, 1 is the numerator, and 4 is called the denominator. Understand? Good. Let’s continue…Now if I…” Miss Honey paused, and looked over her shoulder to the classroom, “Billy? How are we doing? Are we paying attention?”
Billy rocked to and fro, his head still thrashing left and right. Miss Honey chuckled to herself, “You kids think this is torture?” Her laugh gurgled and lingered in the back of her throat. After Miss Honey had her moment, she noticed the time, which induced her to spit out numbers more quickly and claw her nails on the chalkboard. Jake moaned with pleasure. His mind was at ease for he had glued his ears and eyes shut with some Elmer’s. Cindy stabbed a pencil in her eye.
Sarah screamed, “Miss Honey!!!!!!!!!” Bloody spit was flying out of Billy’s jiggling mouth, splattering all over Sarah and the other students. Blood was pouring out of his ears. A piece of Billy’s tongue fell on Sarah’s wet lap. The entire class screamed and jumped out of their seats. With an audible, echoing sound, Billy’s head exploded into pieces. Gooey pieces of hair, skin, and bone rained over the classroom like confetti.
Miss Honey stopped, “Well, I think we had enough for today.”
